Guiding Principles

The contents that form this website stem from the data gathered from a two-day “North Island College Indigenization Think Tank Symposium” and subsequent interviews that involved the voices of North Island College (NIC) faculty and administration (specifically, those that work with the office of Indigenous Education, those that identify as Indigenous staff or faculty, and those that work to support the Indigenization of the institute), and members of the Indigenous Education Council (the IEC) that comprise of the 35 Nations that NIC seeks to serve. Further details on the method and methodology can be found under the heading of that name. There were 32 participants in total, with 27 being employed by NIC, and 5 members of the IEC. At the beginning of the symposium, the group worked collaboratively to determine guiding principles on how to work together in a safe and respectful way, to ensure that everyone felt comfortable speaking freely to contribute to this work. I would like to offer these guiding principles to keep in mind as one navigates this website, as they are just as applicable in the reading of the work created as they were in the creation of the data the allowed for this report to be developed:
